VaDaGama was named by and created from a kindred spirit, inspired by ancient seagoing travelers from Portugal who jumped on a ship back in the 1400s-the ship diary that we recovered states that VaDaGama's crew dressed in organic cotton and traded their locally and consciously made gear as they sailed the world's oceans in search of adventure, surf, and beautiful maidens.
The story says that upon reaching the southern end of Africa VaDaGama and his crew stopped to replenish their supplies in what is currently known as Cape Town. The captain, Vasco Da Gama, was mesmerized by the beautiful, hypnotic waves. He fell into a trancelike state from where he supposedly saw a man from a distant land riding the waves on boards made from the African Wawa tree. Vasco stripped down to his shorts, cut a wooden plank down to 11 feet, and paddled out into the surf. From that day forward, VaDaGama swore that he would protect the trees and ocean while he sailed around the globe searching for perfect waves.
VaDaGama is about returning to a simpler time-where travel, surf, and individual style merge with consciously made products. VaDaGama was created to help shift our consumption towards products that have a lighter impact on the ocean and land that we love, so we can move towards a day where true freedom of thought and action is in congruence with the world that supports us.
